STAG was initially established by the Abalone Council of Australia (ACA) and Southern Rocklobster Limited (SRL) in partnership with the Australian Seafood Cooperative Research Centre and the FRDC to advocate for the liberalisation and development of direct trade between Australia and China, and address other trade and market related issues.

The group now provides a unified voice on Australian seafood industry priorities for international trade and market access.
