FEEDBACK/STORY SUGGESTIONS Dempsey Ward Communication Coordinator +61 2 6122 2134 dempsey.ward@frdc.com.au

FRDC is seeking expressions of interest for Research Advisory Committee (RAC) Chairs to work closely with FRDC to guide critical investment for the benefit of Australia’s fishing and aquaculture sectors.

RAC Chairs play a vital role in coordinating FRDC’s investments to ensure they deliver positive impacts in research, development, and extension (RD&E).

FRDC has eight RACs – one representing each State, the Commonwealth and the Northern Territory – providing advice on priorities and investment needs.

The committees include representatives within the supply chain, including wild-catch, aquaculture, post-harvest, and recreational fishing across various sectors in each jurisdiction.

As a RAC Chair, your primary role is to independently lead the RAC process, ensuring committee members are aware of, and responsive to, the opportunities and challenges of stakeholders within each jurisdiction. The Committee uses their local knowledge to help prioritise RD&E to ensure FRDC’s investments create positive impacts.

Who we’re looking for

FRDC is looking for passionate leaders with a deep understanding of Australian fishing and aquaculture sectors. You will need to have excellent communication and collaboration skills to help ensure you can build consensus within the committee.

RAC Chairs will be required to attend at least two committee meetings a year (being online or face to face), noting FRDC anticipates increasing this number.

RAC Chairs will be paid a sitting fee (unless they are a government employee without a separate ABN) and will be appointed to the role for a three‐year term.

If you’re a strong leader who thrives on collaboration and wants to shape the future of Australian fishing and aquaculture RD&E, apply by 17 May 2024.

The RAC Chair selection process will be undertaken using a selection panel, comprising the relevant Director of Fisheries and FRDC.
